The fall is always such a busy time of year. There are so many things to be harvested and processed and I feel like I have barely made a dent. In fact, I’ve done very little so far this year. I have made a couple batches of apple butter, pear butter and peach butter and that’s about it!
I haven’t even made any tomato sauce! What am I going to do all winter? Use store-bought?!?!? Lucky for me a friend of ours came over with a couple jars of tomato sauce and some pickled peppers. I am already making plans for them so they won’t make it much longer in storage.
So you’re wondering “Andrea, what have you been doing then?”
Well, here’s the story of the last two or three weeks of my life. First, we lost the baby chicken. I was so crazy disappointed that I’ve been putting off posting anything about it. I went out the in the morning and it was just laying there. No injuries, just “kicked the bucket”. What does one do with a dead baby chicken? I buried it. It seemed silly crying over the little guy while my chicken breasts were marinating in the fridge but such is life! lol.
A couple days later a kitten showed up in my garden. Ironic because Jonny has set a “one in, one out rule” to limit how many animals I bring into the house. It didn’t matter though, I can’t keep another kitten. She just needs to come in from the cold, have a flea bath and a meal. Then I’ll find her a home. Yeah…. she is still here. Laying with one tiny adorable paw on the keyboard restricting my use of the delete key. Jonny and I keep talking about her finding a new home while we cuddle her and kiss her little adorable head and wonder what we are getting into.
She loves all the other pets so much. It’s so hard to come by a cat who loves people, cats, dogs and chickens inclusive.
A week ago yesterday I got a call from Jonny that he was in the hospital. My heart stopped. He had cut his thumb with a bandsaw. Do you know what a bandsaw is? Its the kind of saw that takes whole limbs! Ugh. I drove to the hospital so fast that my poor little diesel Jetta was chugging along as fast as it could go with my foot to the floor.
Jonny was okay though and got to keep it. Just a bunch of stitches. Nine or ten I think. I was busy trying not to look at it. He nicked the tendon and has lost the feeling in the tip of his thumb but he will be okay and able to use it again. OMG that was lucky. I could post a picture but it would ruin your appetites for my food posts! lol. Thank goodness that we live in Canada and aside from the $26 for antibiotics, everything else was free. Sometimes I wonder how people in other countries can afford to get injured…
I also got a new job! And lost it already! Sometimes you have to just let life take you on the ride it has planned for you. Truthfully I am glad to be back here with you guys and blogging. I missed it :).
So I am sorry that I have been away at such a crazy time of year but I am back 🙂 And I have some cool things to share with you! Thank you for sticking it out. It really means a lot to me to have your support!
